Taking Stock:Distinguished Club Program 07/08

Reference to DCP goals updates from Toastmasters International. For Term 07/08, we've successfully completed 5 out of 10 goals. We qualified for Distinguished Club Award. However, we missed out on the condition that Club must have at least 20 members as at June 30, we were short of 2 members. Hence, we have no award. Nonetheless, we would have grown in our public speaking & leadership skills by completing our respective speech projects & taking up mtg roles/Exco appointments during the 1 year period from Jul 07 to Jun 08. The journey continues on with new term of office from Jul 08 to Jun 09. We shall continue to have fun learning and growing under the leadership of Ong Lye Sum, ACB, CL.

Taking stock: Distinguish Club Programme 2006/07

Reference to the DCP goals updates from Toastmasters International. For the toastmasters year 2006/07, we've successfully completed 5 out of the 10 goals. We qualify for one part of the Distinguished Club Award. However, we miss out on the condition that Club must have at least 20 members as at June 30. Hence, we have not met the qualifying conditions to receive an award.

Nonetheless, we would have grown in our public speaking skills by completing our respective projects during the 1 year period from July 2006 to June 2007. The journey continues into the new term of office from July 2007 to June 2008. Let's remember to have fun as we learn and grow under the leadership of Theresa Groyon.

Division B and Area B4 Governor

ITE TMC is now residing in Division B, Area B4.

Here's the two important men who will serve us in 2007/08 toastmasters session.

Learning @ Club Officers Training (COT)

Four ITE Toastmasters Club Officers attended the Division B Club Officers (COT) Training held on 30 Jun 2007 at Leng Kee Community Club. They were:

1 Yeo Poh Lian, CL Incoming Treasurer
2 Ong Lye Sum, CL Incoming VPE1
3 Andrew Goh, CC Incoming VPM
4 Sivanathan Incoming VPE2

The programme included various District Officers speeches, three educational cum motivational presentations, one hour break out sessions and an award ceremony.

Above Image: Outgoing District 80 Governor Poh Kim Siong, DTM appreciating the presence of Toastmasters at the COT event.

The first educational segment was presented by incoming Lieutenant Governor (Education & Training) Goh Wei Koon, DTM on the topic "District Education - Club Success Plan". He dwelt in details the strategy using an acronym "SPEAK" representing

Speak more;
Practice more;
Evaluate more;
Advance yourself; and
Kill bad habits.

Wei Koon further guided the audience through the understanding of DCP goals and explained with samples the Club Success Plan.

The other presentation on "Towards Quality Meetings and Clubs" was deliverd by Richard Sng, DTM, the incoming ASST. DIV. GOV. EDUCATION & TRAINING I. Richard was thorough in his presentation by providing key learning points from his many years of experiences, touching on 12 key areas, namely: What is Quality?; The Criteria & Factors; The Meeting Programme; Invitations; Courtesy Calls; Reception; The Opening Address; Guests & Visitors; The Break; Acknowledgements; Feedback & Send-Offs; and The TEN Platinum Rules to a Successful Club.

"The TEN Platinum Rules to a Successful Club" covers
1 Make Members Feel Important;
2 Listen to Feedback From Members;
3 Empower & Involve them, Motivate them;
4 Help Plan for Members Progress;
5 3 Cs, Communicate, Communicate, Communicate
6 Innovate & Improve;
7 Seek Cooperation;
8 Understanding Education Awards;
9 Self Evaluate (Tape Process);
10 Take Pride In Your Club.

This was followed by a "Breakup Session", where each of the roles of EXCO were shared by a facilitator with follow up discussions and Q & A.

After the completion of the breakup session, Toastmaster Manivannan, DTM (above image) shared with the audience a presentation "Toastmasters: The Timeless Experience" in which he encourage members of executive committee to practice leadership skills such as understanding the social & personal growth needs of members and fellow exco; importance of having passion & fun in a meeting; becoming excited in a meeting; not to impose views on others; and creating a timeless experience by doing more than just a chapter meeting such as creating different theme and giving recognition in a meeting; developing fellowship and rewarding for good efforts.

Finally, the outgoing Division Governor, Tan May Yan, ATM-B gave away the Achievers Award to Toastmasters who completed their CCs, ACB, ACS, ACG, CL, CLB and CLS in a Ceremony.

The incoming Division B Governor, William Lim, DTM closes the COT with a motivating and inspiring message and promises his commitment to the division. The audience was informed that the division B official website, http://www.divisionb.org/ was resurrected.

We've learned and gained much through this training and hope to practice what was learned to bring ITE Toastmasters Club to the next level of excellence.
