ITE TMC 4th Chapter Meeting 2012/13

Our 4th chapter meeting of term 2012/13 was a very special occasion as we used our very ITE Broadcast studio to allow Toastmasters to train to speak in a Television Studio environment.

The theme of the meeting was "You cannot dream yourself into a character; you must hammer and forge yourself one" - Henry David Thoreau.

In this special pilot project, we coordinated the resources of ITE's school of Beauty, Hair Styling and Digital Audio & Video departments to recreate an authentic learning environment replicating a television studio.

The whole experience started at 5pm when speakers and evaluators arrived to have their hair styled and make up done before they proceeded to the studio at T05-30.

Speakers were given a taste of what it is to speak in front of cameras in a studio environment and given pointers on how to stand and move in a studio.

Before going into the prepared speeches there was the matter of inducting our newest member Teo Cheng Chuan.

VP of Membership, Ong Lye Sum, ACS/CL inducting our latest member Teo Cheng Chuan.
Our first speaker was Pooja Shah from Bedok TMC who spoke on social media for her Project 9.

Our second speaker was Parwinder Singh (Gogi), CC from our club was doing his AP3 Make them Laugh from the Entertaining Speaker manual, speaking on the perils and joys of his abundance of bodily hair. (Gogi was voted the best speaker of the evening).

Our third speaker, Cao Min, CC/ALB from Flagmasters TMC also did the same project as Gogi but his topic was on the best strategy to attack a buffet.

Our final speaker as Azizah bte Sapari ACB/ALS from NTU Alumni TMC who did AP1 - Straight Talk from the Communicating on Video manual.

We also greatly appreciated the presence of Eden Liew, the principal of ITE College East for gracing the occasion.

We would like to thank the following external Toastmasters for agreeing to be evaluators:

Yap Boon Liang, ACB/CL from SIM 1 TMC evaluating Pooja Shah's speech.
Shaun Li, ACB/CL from Tampines Changkat TMC evaluating Parwinder Singh's speech.
Andrew Chew, CC from NTU Alumni TMC evaluating  Cao Min's speech.  (Andrew was also voted best evaluator of the evening).
