Thu 25 Oct 07, 4th Chapter Meeting@Tampines

Opening SpeechWe had our chapter meeting for the FIRST time in ITE College Central (Tampines Campus).

President Theresa's opening address covered on the theme for the evening "Finders Keepers, Losers Weepers". Wikipedia defined "Finders, Keepers" as the doctrine that says when something is unowned or abandoned (gems, treasures), whoever finds it can claim it (from an old Scottish saying "Finders keepers, losers weepers").

For this evening's meeting, she remarked that we should seek & find treasures and gems in public speaking, communication through fellowship. The place, time and space could be treated like an abandoned disowned moment where the possibilities of adding more treasures to what we already had were endless.

Word of the EveningNavigate --> by our Language Evaluator, Colin Millward (President, Results Foundation TMC).

Prepared Speeches
There were 3 prepared speech speakers: Siva (P7), Agnes (P3) & Eng Kai (P6). In terms of how long they had been members of ITE TMC, the 3 of them were the youngest, still the latest 3 new members. No new member has joined since Aug 06 ............ we need new members .............

They shared through their speeches:
1) Siva - Difference between hearing & listening, Listening Approaches
2) Agnes - Importance of Life Annuity, cited an example of a relative with no annuity
3) Eng Kai - Animated the voices of his 2 part-time course lecturers

Project Evaluation
Eugene Cher & Low Hong Ee from Tampines West TMC gave their valuable evaluations for Siva & Agnes respectively. Eng Kai was evaluated by our District 80 Governor Michael Wee (Tampines Changkat TMC).

Language Evaluation
Colin commended those present on the use of the Word of the Evening (Navigate). He was delighted that most of us used "Navigate" multiple times.
He spoke on using pauses in our speeches and on the rhythm of the words. He highlighted that the correct word to use was "pressured" & not "pressurised".

Closing Address
President Theresa read (did not sing though) some of the lyrics of the Elvis Presley song titled "Finders Keepers Losers Weepers". Interpreting these lyrics, she remarked that we should rejoice whenever we find what we are looking for and worth keeping. She hoped that we had found what's worth keeping from this evening's meeting eg. wisdom, good use of language and lose what we have to lose eg. fear of public speaking.
