22 Nov 07, 5th Chapter Meeting@Bishan

Opening Speech
President Theresa highlighted the theme "To be forewarned, is to be forearmed". If you know about something before it happens, you can be prepared for it. In Toastmasters, the theme applies to preparation, getting ready, anticipating the rocky, bumpy and exciting road ahead.

She gave an example of a story..............
A young man was driving his BMW convertible on a zigzag road full speed when he met with another motorist from another direction, he has gone through the road he was going. The motorist shouted, "pigs!!!!". The young man felt insulted and shouted back, "skunks!!!" he then turned his car on the next road and found herds of pigs going against his side of the road.

Sometimes forewarned may appear to be unpleasant and unwelcome…scary but being forewarned prepares you for the battles ahead.

Closing Address
President Theresa advised that as we go on our own way tonight, let's be forewarned!!! That there’s power in spoken words. It matters to whom we speak to. Let’s continue to make big plans/great plans in this journey of speaking, leaving our listeners inspired and stirred up…so much that they will want what you have. Let's be forearmed! Ending with a quote:

"Make no little plans; they have no magic to stir men's blood. Make big plans; aim high in hope and work."........Daniel Hudson Burnham (1846 - 1912)
