20 May 09, 11th Chapter Meeting@Tampines

President's Address
Lye Sum mentioned that this was the 2nd last Chapter meeting for this term & spoke on the theme "The gains will quit the pains". Cited an experience related to work.

Table Topics
Kay Teck was the Table Topics Master. The topic was given to the speaker after getting a Gift from a lucky dip. The topics attempted were :

1) Tan Kay Chuan (Gift : Lion Clip) - Do you agree with the quote by Mary Tyler Moore (American Actress) that: “Pain nourishes courage. You can't be brave if you've only had wonderful things happen to you.”

2) Koh Hock Seng (Roof TMC) (Gift: NCSS Key Chain) - An event or someone who contributed to make the world a better place.

3) Aloysius Lim (Gift: Levis Name Card Pouch) - Pain pays the income of each precious thing.

4) Richard Sng (Tiarel TMC & Brilliant Adv TMC) (Gift: Journal Notebook) - Share a time when despite the odds you persevered and finally won.

5) Jet Ding (1st time guest) (Gift: Pen) - Most of us do some form of writing, share an experience when you wrote something and you gained from it.

6) Lim Swee Kee (AIA Changi TMC) (Gift: Nail Clip Set) - Share a time when you lost something but you gained back something.

Prepared Speeches
1) Koh Ho Peng (ITE TMC), P1 (Speech Title: Myself)
Cited his education journey from school days. Currently, embarking on degree programme.

2) Tan Kay Chuan (ITE TMC), P4 (Speech Title: Technology & you)
He spoke on embracing technology. His speech included creative use of language (eg. interactive, innovative, imaginative, inter co-operative, e-world, i-world) & descriptive words which his evaluator later commended.

3) Lim Swee Kee (AIA Changi TMC), AP5, Entertaining Speaker Manual - Speaking After Dinner (Speech Title: Smile or smell)
Delivered his speech in an unexpected & entertaining way by 1st showing us a pen which had a small probe for cleaning the teeth. Went on to talk about the education industry.

4) Richard Sng (Tiarel TMC & Brilliant Adv TMC), AP5, Storytelling Manual - Bringing History to Life (Speech Title: Full at Fullerton)
Excellently told a story about the day in 1959 where S'pore was having its General Elections for Self-government. A rally was held near the General Post Office to get people to vote. His speech had numerous descriptive words & various language tools were used.

Project Evaluation
Jaya (Tampines West TMC), Thomas (Tampines Changkat TMC), Hock Seng (Roof TMC) & Aziz (Civil Service College TMC & Siglap TMC) fedback on the areas done well and gave suggestions for improvement.

Language Evaluation
Siva gave a brief report on language evaluation.

Ah Counter
Kenny gave the Ah Counter's report. His first role since joining Toastmasters.

Jet, Ivy & Karl who were 1st time guests learnt what Toastmasters is about. They remarked that they would attend as guests for the next round if they are available.

Thanks to Kay Chuan who bought food & souvenirs for visiting TMs.
