Beng Kee was the Sergeant-at-Arms. He performed a fantastic job for the first attempt.

Aloysius was the Toastmaster of the Evening. Being a seasoned Toastmaster, he filled the meetings with interesting comments. Aloysius is the best!

President's Address:
Siva welcomed members to the New Year & the start of the 2nd half of the Toastmasters term. During the Dec month, some would have spent it to clear their outstanding leave. Hopefully, some thought was spared to reflect on one's projects' status, ie. by end of this term to achieve Competent Communicator or embark on their first Advanced Manual. For those who didn't think have the time to reflect on Toastmasters, need not worry & smile to start thinking about it now.

The theme for this evening's mtg was "Don't cry because it is over, smile because it happened!." He cited a story which he read from a book about a pastor & his son. A pastor was busy preparing for his address in the Church & his 5 year old son was consistently seeking his attention. The pastor came up with a plan to keep him occupied. He flipped thru several magazines til he saw a picture of a world map. He tore the picture up in tiny pieces & gave it to his son to solve the jigsaw puzzle. How would a 5-year old boy solve this puzzle coz it would be too complicated to solve. The pastor proceeded to work on his script. To his amazement, his son came back to him 5 mins later with the solved jigsaw puzzle of the world map. The boy showed that on the reverse of the world map was a picture of a man. He put the pieces together easily based on the picture of the man & turned them over. Hence, jigsaw for the world map was solved. The boy didn't cry when given this challenge, he smiled, remained positive & solved it by looking at the reverse of the pieces. Learning from his son, the pastor included in his address to the Church that when we face challenges, we should remain positive & cited the example of how his son solved the complicated jigsaw puzzle.

In Toastmasters, we may be writing a script for a prepared speech & get stuck when there isn't enough material. We may keep on delaying to present it coz the script isn't ready. Why not choose another subject/message for the project which might have enough material to eventually present it.
