22 Apr 09, 10th Chapter Meeting@Dover

President's Address
Lye Sum related an experience encountered by his daughter. The experience tied to the meeting theme "He who falls today may rise tomorrow".


Word of the DayDivine --- Language Evaluator, Lim Seh Leng (Ulu Pandan TMC)

Table TopicsKay Chuan was the Table Topics Master. Table Topics speakers were:
1) Thandavan - To live each day as "the first day of the rest of your life" or as if it were "the last day of your life", which is wiser
2) Sean Loke - Mother Theresa said, "It's not what you do, but how much love you put into it that matters". Do you agree?
3) JJ - There are no shortcuts to maturity. It takes years for us to grow to adulthood, & it takes a full season for fruit to mature & ripen.
4) Kay Teck - Experience is not what happens to you. It is what you do with what happens to you.
5) Roger - If my life is fruitless, it doesn't matter who praises me, & if my life is fruitful, it doesn't matter who criticizes me.

Prepared Speeches
1) Chan Wee Yang (SIM Students TMC), P10 (Speech Title: The power to achieve: I can do it!)
Cited his education journey in taking a Direct Degree course straight after 'O' Levels. Despite the numerous obstacles encountered, he pursued his goals.

2) Thandavan (Gek Poh Ville TMC & Brilliant Adv TMC), AP1, Special Occasion Speeches Manual - Mastering the Toast (Speech Title: Toast to Singapore)
He came to S'pore in Sep 2000. Impressed with clean city, pure water, efficient airport, etc. Toasted the leaders of S'pore.

3) JJ Ri (ACCA S'pore TMC), AP2, Special Occasion Speeches Manual - Speaking in Praise (Speech Title: The Noble Prize Winner)
Praised Mother Theresa. Gave examples of Mother Theresa's experiences when requesting for donations.

Project EvaluationRoger (S'pore Poly TMC), Coen (Queenstown TMC, Tampines Changkat TMC & Braddell Heights Adv TMC) & Lye Sum (ITE TMC) fedback on the areas done well and gave suggestions for improvement.

Language EvaluationSeh Leng organised her thorough Language Evaluation as follows:
1) Divine Doers - acknowledged those who used word of the day
2) Defective - mispronunciation, grammatical errors
3) Distinguished - excellent use of language

Ah Counter
Samsudin (The Open Alumni TMC) demonstrated excellent listening skills when giving the Ah Counter's report.

Han Yeong & Pearl who were 1st time guests learnt what Toastmasters is about.

Thanks to Kay Chuan who bought food & souvenirs for visiting TMs.
